LAMC – Course Compass Training Schedule

 

1st Training Class (2 hours)

 

  1. Quick overview of Course Compass

-         The Student View

-         Show the Control panel (gateway into customizing what the student sees)

-         Show the Manage Course Menu area  (you can customize what buttons you want to appear on the left)

-         Add Content area folders.

-         Add a FOLDER/ ITEM/Link/or Test

 

  1.  Syllabus

-         Syllabus should set up like your course. (Ex: Assignment listed, instructor info, include information to access the class online.)

-         Look at example syllabus from Myriam (add SLO’s that are now required)

-         Create a syllabus button on Navigation bar

-         Post your syllabus.

 

  1. Announcement

-         How to add an announcement

-         Change settings on an announcement. (Ex: Make Permanent)

-         Announcements should be updated weekly.  This is your only communication to your students.

-         Get in the habit of emailing the weekly announcements to your students.

-         Add icon that says “EMAIL” to simplify communication for students.

 

  1. Assignments

-         Make assignments due on same day throughout your course. (Ex: Every Sunday at 11:30 pm for example, or every Wed or Sun at 11pm)

-         Assignments can include Exams (EX: Assignment #3- Please complete chapter exams for chapters 1-5 by Sunday 11:30 pm- 50 points)

 

  1. Calendar

-         Add assignment due dates to calendar

-         Add any other due dates

-         Print calendar for yourself to stay organized and instruct students to do the same

 

  1. Discussion Board

-         Three Discussions minimum are required per course, some may require more

-         1st discussion board should be an “Autobiography” where students introduce themselves and also respond to 3 other people’s autobiography. This will facilitate some contact with others. Photos can also be added by students as part of their introduction too.

 

 

2nd Training Class (1 Hour)

 

  1. Testing/ Exams
    • Required for some disciplines– Pre/ Post Tests and Chapter Exams.
    • How to change questions
    • Required – Timed Exams.  Suggestion: no more then 25 questions at a time.
    • Set Exams to Force Completion
    • Set Exam to Scores Only
    • Under Test Feedback – select 1 question @ a time
    • Under Test Feedback – select prohibit back tracking

 

 

 

3rd Training Class (1 Hour)

           

            1. Gradebook

·        How to access it

·        Modify a gradebook item

·        How to add “Instructor Graded” assignments.   (Ex:  Attendance, Papers, Participation Pts.)

·        Export/ Import Grades

·        Manually grade assignments
