Supplemental DE Report - Additional Matters
Student Learning Outcomes
- The Committee has discussed Student Learning Outcomes (SLO's) a number of times. We have decided to coordinate any DE efforts in this matter through Curriculum, the newly appointed SLO Coordinator and the Department Chairs
- At the same time, DE has developed a Content Review for an Online Course - see rubric . The rubric will be utilized by DE and Curriculum in the process of approving online courses and includes the following criteria: instructional design, including syllabus, communication, interaction, and collaboration, student evaluation & assessment, learner support and resources including ADA, web design, course evaluation. Under the evaluation of syllabus, the content review will review DE classes to ensure learning objectives are clearly stated along with measurable outcomes (i.e. student learning outcomes)
Student Satisfaction Surveys
- The DE Committee has discussed Student Satisfaction Surveys - here is one developed for us by the ELAC DE Coordinator - http://wellness.lattc.edu/online/evals/LAMCeval.html which can be implemented and used for DE instructor evaluation . The survey will be further implemented through Department Chairs and the current instructor evaluation process established at Mission by contract.

The DE Committee met with Counselor Suzanne Ritcheson, and with approval from the head of Counseling, Gwen Walker, the following agreements were reached:
1. Suzanne would provide online counseling through email and telephone consultation. Her contact information has now been added to the online webpage at Mission - http://lamission.edu/online
2. A link to FAQ Counseling questions has also been provided to students - http://lamission.edu/counseling/faqs.html
Online Library Resources
The DE Committee met with David Garza of the Library, and an agreement was made that DE instructors would be provided with the usernames and passcodes for the online databases so that online students could use the databases for their research papers - see http://lamission.edu/library/resources.html .
Further, the Library will provide phone consultation to students who need assistance with their research papers ( similar to what the librarians do for on campus students). Also David Garza said that the Library is amenable to provide through online delivery - the library workshops - Information Competency, including research strategies, searching for books, locating journal and newspaper articles, Internet I - The Basics, Internet II - Searching and Evaluation, and MLA Format - see http://lamission.edu/library/workshops.html and to work with DE in developing these for online delivery, possibly as non-credit DE classes.
Course Management Tutorials
Currently Mission uses three different Course Management systems - Etudes Classic (Spring 2007) which will change to Etudes NG for Summer 2007, and forward, Moodle, and Coursecompass. Recently, tutorials for these three course management systems have been added to assist students in better navigating their DE classes - see http://missiononline.pbwiki.com/tutorials
