1. Discussed list of certificated faculty - and grandfathering of non-certificated faculty
2. Discussed Online Training for Faculty
The Committee reviewed the certification process and agreed that only three (3) Course Management Systems are acceptable for faculty to use in their online classes - Course Compass, Etudes and Moodle.
The Committee further discussed where faculty could obtain certification for teaching using one of the acceptable Course Management Systems.
The Committee agreed to the following list of acceptable training:
1. Moodle - through @One and Joan Duzer faculty - 4 week class
2. Etudes - through Foothill, or WLAC, ELAC
3. Course Compass - The publisher is developing the curriculum for training, and it will be comparable to the Moodle or Etudes training. Once we receive and have reviewed the curriculum for training in Course Compass the Committee can then votet to approve it as an acceptable training provider.
3. Discussed Recertification
The DE agreed that every five years (dating from the original certification of the class by DE), the class must be reviewed again and re-certified, and as part of this process, faculty must participate in an "online pedagogy" training as approved by the DE Committee.
4. Discussed Academic Affairs Scheduling Policy for Online Classes
The Committee reviewed the Trade Tech Policy and the VPAA will adopt a similar policy for Mission Faculty who teach online.
The following policies govern the scheduling of classes which have hours listed a being completed online.
This includes classes which are scheduled to be taught with 100% of the hours online or any portion of the hours online.
1. No class can be scheduled as being online until the class has been approved by the college curriculum committee as an online course.
2. No class with online hours can be scheduled with STAFF as the instructor.
3. No class with online hours can be scheduled with an instructor who has not been approved to teach online at LATTC.
4. Classes that do not appear in the printed schedule of classes are required to be advertised for 30 days prior to the start of the class.
5. All classes which are scheduled for online hours need to be reported to the director of the online program 30 days prior to their start date so as to be properly included in the web schedules, to have the class rosters uploaded, to have the Moodle shells created, and to be able to support the students with correct information.
5. Discussed Intellicom Digital Clips Library - Paul discussed the Intellicom service, and how faculty are currently using it both on campus and online classes. The DE Committee supports a one year pilot project using the Intellicom Digital Clips Library, and to encourage faculty training through Staff Development and then to report back to DE the success of the library for adoption for future years. The invoice of $1500 for the subscription to the Digital Library for 7/1/2009 to 6/30/2010 will be presented by the VPAA to the EPC and then to the budget committee.
6. Discussed Etudes Invoice of approx. $16,500 - DE discussed the necessity of continuing the etudes platform for 2009-2010 since online classes using etudes are already scheduled for Summer and Fall 2009. The DE Comittee will conduct a DE Program review to determine the usage of various Course Management Systems and to provide support for the platforms used to deliver online classes at Mission. faculty use. The invoice of $16,500 for the license fees and usage of etudes for the period of 71/2009 to 6/30/2009 will be presented by the VPAA to the EPC and then to the budget committee.
