1. Update on SARS status and broadcast phone messages to our online students for Winter/Spring 2009
The Committee decided to only work on the Winter 2009 SARS phone "blast". David Jordan will do a "work request" on campus, and request Maury Pearl to put together a data base of all of the online students for Winter 2009. The DE will work on a phone message and it, together with the data base of Winter 09 students will be sent to our SARS person to do the "phone blast" to our online students.
2. Development of Online Orientation for Our Online Students
WLAC has developed a one unit Online Orientation for Online Students. Paul said this was a great idea and is willing to "spearhead" the development of this curriculum for Mission.
3. Late Add Policy for Online Students
David Jordan advised DE that he had a meeting with Joe Ramirez, VP Student Services and Rosalie Torres, Admissions and the John Clerx policy for "Late Add Online" was adopted. David will send an email to all online faculty for Winter and Spring 09 classes - advising them of the Late Add Policy.
4. Update deadlines to submit online courses
Said said that DE should work on developing some more specific deadlines to submit online courses. He said that faculty should submit the Application to Teach Online by the 1st galleys in each semester, and the course shell should be reviewed and approved by DE/Curriculum no later than the 3rd galley. DE and Curriculum will work on developing such deadlines, and once approved by DE and Curriculum will be posted at the Curriculum website.
5. Course Shell Updates - Said suggested that all online classes, and their shells should be updated every 5 years. This new policy needs to be developed by Curriculum/DE, approved and then posted at the Curriculum site. The policy should be sent to the EPC for their review and approval also. Also DE and Curriculum will develop a modified rubric to review and evaluate these course shell updates.
6. Student End of Course survey - DE discussed need to develop a survey that is more secure than the one we use from LATTC which is now open to "tampering by student or faculty"
7. CCC DE Satisfaction Survey - David Jordan will email all of our online faculty and ask for both faculty and student participation in the survey.
8. Training of DE members to do "Shell Review" - In our next meeting on 12/12 we will discuss training Myriam and Vilma to participate in the Shell Revew process.
9. New members for DE committee and Student rep on DE Committee - DE will discuss new members and a student rep in our next session on 12/12.
